HTC Gallery updated with Material Design

HTC has just updated its Gallery application in the Play Store. The app now has a completely redesigned user interface which complies with Google’s recently-announced Material Design guidelines, together with a new ‘tag view’ and a Face Fusion photo editor.

The full changelog can be seen below.

• Browse your photos and videos in the cloud (coming soon in some regions)


• Face Fusion photo editor


• Tag view


• Tag images on your phone with keywords


• Search files on your phone by tag


• See and search tags from Facebook and Flickr (coming soon in some regions)


• Updated timeline layout for feed view and grid view

As is customary with all manufacturer updates, the upgrade is being distributed in stages, but if you don’t feel like waiting for a notification confirming that it’s ready for your device, you can search for the update manually. To do this simply head into the Play Store,” then “My Apps,” and select “HTC Gallery.”

Crowdfunding platform IndieGoGo releases an Android app

IndieGoGo, one of the top crowdfunding sites next to Kickstarter, has long done its mobile bidding on the mobile web, but the company is now allowing folks to partake in some pledging fund through a brand new native Android app. As you’d expect, the app makes it easier for you to find and fund campaigns that interest you.

You can browse campaigns by category, search, find campaigns that are trending or ones that are set to end soon. Decide you like one in particular and want to back it? A big contribute button awaits you at the bottom of each campaign pages. The pages will show you the information, screenshots and video just as if you were visiting from the web.

To top all this off, the app has been launched with a very clean Material Design layout that should please those who enjoy using apps that follow Google’s latest design guidelines. Not much more to say — it’s free, and it’s in the Google Play Store.

Minecraft developer releases Scrolls for Android

With a big hit on their hands in Minecraft, it seems amazing that game developer Mojang is only now releasing their second title for Android. Their newest game is Scrolls, a game that combines elements of card and board games, to be played on tablet devices.

Scrolls uses a combat system that is based on attributes found in scrolls, like creatures, spells and ancient machines of war. Over time, as the player deploys their army using the scrolls, their forces will slowly build up and become unique. Besides building up an army through the powers contained in the scrolls, players will also need to develop strategies in order to win on the battlefield.

Scrolls provides players with the ability to play solo or online in competitive or casual play. The title includes systems for trading scrolls, making in-app purchases, and for chatting with other players.

Google Play reveals the top apps, games, movies, music and other entertainment choices of 2014

We’re roaring toward the finish line for the calendar year and it’s time for folks to start taking a look back. No one likes to reminisce quite like Google, so the company revealed the top content on the Google Play Store for the past 12 months. From the most downloaded apps and games to the top music, movies, TV shows and books, we get a look at all the most popular goods available in Google’s digital storefront for 2014.

The top apps list was mostly dominated by the usual suspects, including Facebook, Pandora and Netlifx, though a couple of surprises did make the cut. Duolingo’s presence on the list shows folks really are interested in expanding their language, while MyFitnessPal’s prominence tells of a society yearning to get fit (in fact, health and fitness was the fastest growing app category this past year).

For games, Candy Crush Saga is still ruining lives, everyone is still addicted to Clash of Clans and Subway Surfers remains a favorite among many. One odd game did make the cut that we didn’t expect, though — Don’t Tap the White Tile, a game whose title notes the challenge itself. You owe it to yourself to find out why so many people have found themselves addicted to this game.

Elsewhere, Frozen and The Walking Dead topped video content with folks falling back in love with Toy Story, while Katy Perry and Iggy Azalea were the top artists in music. There’s a lot more to take in so be sure to take a look at the full infographic over at Google’s blog.
