Moto X (2nd Gen) now available from Verizon Wireless

Verizon told us their version of the Moto X was going on sale today, but in case you weren’t around to hear the news here it is: you can buy it right now! The device begins at $99.99 with a two-year contract, which will give you either the black base 16GB version for $99.99, or a white version with a wooden back cover for the same price (though we’re expecting Verizon to increase the price on the latter in due time).

Not good with either of those? You’ll also be able to order Verizon’s version through Moto Maker. $99.99 will get you the 16GB in whichever fashion you desire, while you’ll need to pay an extra $50 for double the storage. Not too bad if you don’t mind mind signing two years of your life away.

Of course, you always have the option of going the off-contract route for a reasonable $550, or you can split those payments up through Verizon Edge for just $27.49 per month for 20 months. HTC Camera To Sport A 16MP Sensor And A 170-Degree Super Wide Angle Lens

We’ve been hearing about an HTC camera device for quite some time now. This will allegedly be some sort of GoPro competitor or at least something that has a similar purpose. We’ve seen a leaked image which allegedly shows HTC’s new product yesterday. This device is supposed to launch on October 8th in New York, if reports are correct and we believe they are considering basically everyone agrees when it comes to the launch date. We didn’t hear anything about the hardware specs of this thing, until now that is.

According to EPrice, a Taiwanese publication which is usually spot on when it comes to HTC’s dealings, HTC camera will sport a 16-megapixel sensor and a 170-degree Super Wide Angle Lens. Underwater shooting capabilities and slow motion video recording will reportedly also be a part of the package. For comparison’s sake, the best GoPro camera (Hero3) features a 12-megapixel sensor and has a 179-degree wide angle lens. GoPro seems to be preparing a Hero3’s successor though, it will be interesting to see what performance will the two offer and compare them of course.

It is no secret HTC has had financial difficulties for some time now despite the fact they make truly great devices. HTC is just unable to sell as many devices as they need, there could be tons of reasons for this, marketing might be just one of them. Either way, it seems like HTC is looking for other sources of income because of weak smartphone sales. They seem ready to enter the health-tech and action cam markets and it is still unknown whether the company will release the Android Wear-powered smartwatch or not. Rumors have been going back and forth when it comes to this and hopefully, HTC will give us some indication soon.

I’m really not the one to purchase a product like the GoPro camera or HTC’s upcoming action cam, but I’m sure there are lots of people who would consider a product like that and competition for GoPro is always good. Conan recommends “stiff and rigid” Samsung over “flaccid” iPhone

#bendgate is the gift that keeps on giving.

Samsung, HTC, and LG were quick to capitalize on Apple’s misfortune. But #bendgate has broken through the confines of the mobile tech world, into the “real” world. You know, that place you see when you stop staring at your smartphone for a minute. Yes, even late-night show hosts are now piling on Apple and its less that rectilinear devices.

Case in point, Conan O’Brien. In a skit yesterday, the comedian has a recommendation for those suffering from a case of flaccid phone. Check it out, it’s pretty funny.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Unboxing Video Released

Samsung’s public relations arm, SamsungTomorrow, have posted the very first unboxing video of the Galaxy Note 4 phabet. The video is a little over two minutes long, in Korean but subtitled in English and it’s easy to follow. The packaging used looks like a retail demo box rather than the customer boxes and contains a spare battery and S-Pen tips, which previous models sold in the UK didn’t include. You also get a USB charger and cable, earphones and of course the device, which in the case of this video is the N910S model and has the quad core 2.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor. The Note 4 is also available with Samsung’s very own Exynos 5433 processor, which combines a high performance 1.9 GHz quad core processor with a high efficiency 1.3 GHz quad core processor. All models have 3 GB of RAM, at least 16 GB of storage, a MicroSD card, an optically stabilised 16 MP rear camera and a replaceable 3,220 mAh battery. Check out the video below:

The Note 4 has been receiving a lot of press recently and I’m sure Samsung appreciate the attention. It is the most powerful device currently available (or just about to be!) from carriers and operators; there are more powerful handsets available but they’re harder to come by. I know that many of our readers and a few of our writers are looking forward to the device being released. The Note 4 is commercially available in South Korea but you’ll have to wait until October for most other markets. The Note 4 will be joined by the distinctive Note Edge, which has similar internals but a screen that curves over the right hand side with additional space and utility for notifications and buttons. Prices are going to be high, however: unlocked prices are approaching $1,000 or $300 on a two year contract. This compares with under $200 for an unlocked Moto G. Of course, you are getting more with the Note 4.

We’re waiting to see the inevitable, “will it bend” video and I’m sure a whole raft of box opening clips from around the world as the device hits the retail scene. Updated Google Play Developer Distribution Agreement enforces quicker response times

Google has quietly updated its official Google Play Distribution Agreement to introduce some new clauses that are targeted at developers to take more responsibility for their products, which should, in turn, make things a wee bit easier on us, the consumer.

The first of these new clauses states that developers who offer paid applications or in-app purchases will have a maximum of three business days to respond to customer support inquiries, or just 24 hours if a customer’s issue is deemed urgent by Google.

Next we’re looking at amendments to some of the company’s marketing language, which now prevents developers from embedding links directed to people, applications or games that aren’t supplied through the Play Store.

Lastly, Google has made some changes to the wording surrounding its VAT and tax policy. Starting today, the firm will handle all VAT charges for applications and services purchased via the Play Store.
