It's easy to scoff at Amazon Coins, but with offers of free ones popping up every now and then, it's just as easy to take that virtual money laughing as you walk away with awesome apps and games. Doing what it does rather well, Amazon is now expanding its reach to additional countries. The company's coins are now available in Australia and Japan.

As was the case when Amazon Coins first launched in the US in 2013, Kindle Fire owners in Japan and Australia will find that the company has already deposited 500 Yen or $5 AUD worth of coins into their accounts.

Featured Review: dbrand Skins for the LG G3

We’ve reviewed dbrand skins before, but it’s been a few years (last time was on the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 2012, so it’s time). Their skins are a lot like SlickWraps skins which we reviewed recently as well. But there are a few differences. dbrand gives you to back skins for the LG G3. One is a precision fit which covers the entire back and sides. Which is great if you don’t remove the battery cover often. There is also one that only covers the back so that you can still remove the back cover to place the battery, or take out the microSD card, etc. You also get about 3 circles for the power button, 3 rings for the camera and 3 different front skins. The front is available to cover up the entire LG logo, or leave the circular LG logo or it can reveal the full logo. Now I’ve used the one that reveals the full branding, because it looks nice.

Installing the skin is just as easy as it is on any other device. In fact, dbrand has some really nice tutorial videos showing you exactly how to install the skin on your LG G3 and many other devices that they support. Now I didn’t have a hair dryer, so I was unable to do it that way. But what I did instead was put the back on the LG G3, then put on the Incipio Feather case that I have here. Left it on for about 12-24 hours or so, and took it off and it worked great. I’ve had it on my LG G3 for about a week now and no issues with it peeling off or anything.

dbrand’s website is set up a bit differently than their competitors and I actually like it this way. Over on SlickWraps, you have to choose two skins if you want to mix and match. So you’re paying for two complete skins or wraps there. But with dbrand, if you want to go red and black carbon fiber like I did, you’re still buying one skin. Because you can mix and match very easily. The front is $3, the back is $10, and the accents is $2. Which I think are really good prices for these skins. Now we have some to giveaway as well. Locket Lock Screen – Indie app of the day

What is Locket Lock Screen?

Locket Lock Screen is a lock screen replacement application which means it will replace your device’s lock screen. It focuses on giving you news to read and check out every time you turn on your phone. It comes complete with nice, large pictures to make your lock screen look nice. You may also know it as the app that Tyra Banks endorsed if that sort of celebrity endorsement matters.

The app itself is pretty simple. It replaces your lock screen so when you turn on your device, Locket will be the first thing you see. It sends you hand selected news articles to check out so you can stay up to date. Locket has editors that pick the articles and send them to your phone.

You do have some control over what you see. When you first load up the app, you’ll choose a few categories of things that interest you. Then the app further customizes itself based on what you read, skip, and save. When you see articles, you can skip them if you want to, swipe up to save them to read later, favorite them, or you can actually read them.

The one thing that you should know is that at the time of this writing, Locket is still in beta. That means there are bugs here and there that may prevent the app from being perfect from time to time. Eventually the bugs will be worked out but for now it’s something to consider.

Overall, Locket is actually a lot of fun. Especially if you enjoy staying up to date on the news and you’re looking for a replacement for your lock screen. It’s a tad buggy but it is free so there’s no harm in trying it out!

Sony to make waterproofing a gold standard among its 2015 midrange devices

These days we’re starting to see waterproofing as a premium feature on many manufacturers’ flagship devices, and Sony is looking to change that.

In 2015, Sony plans to make the feature a gold standard among its 2015 mid-rangers, not only its flagships. It’s a nice addition, and is sure to pick up sales for the company unless other manufacturers follow suit with the trend.

Sony currently has the most waterproof device on the market, the Xperia M2 Aqua, which is rated for both IP65 and IP68 protection, allowing the device to be insusceptible to jets of water and can also be underwater for up to 30 minutes.
