Popular CEO Who Wears Pink Shirt And Others Dump Ice Water On Heads In Strange Attempt To Cure Terminal Motor Neuron Disease

G946-18-301-1_1

You've probably been hearing a lot about a disease known as ALS in the last few days, and how CEOs of various tech companies are dumping buckets of chilly H2O on themselves in some misguided attempt to cure said ailment.

ALS, by the way, is a condition you're almost definitely already aware of, especially if you're American - it's more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. ALS is a rebrand by the medical community (and by rebrand, I mean an actual, scientific name), and stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

[New Game] WWE SuperCard is a great excuse for wrestling fans to spend money on digital cards

wwe supercard

We’re not sure what’s up with the revitalization of trading card games, but we’ve seen a great influx of them over the past few years. Console sports games have especially taken a keen liking to the format, with EA using Ultimate Team on Madden and FIFA to let players craft teams by collecting player cards, and 2K Sports doing something similar on NBA 2K with their MyTeam mode.

Now the WWE is falling in line. WWE SuperCard is the second game from 2K Sports under their newly-acquired WWE license, and it’s a mobile offering that serves up a simple, yet addictive game that pits you against many other crazed fans out there. You start with a pack of Superstar cards — 1 is guaranteed to be Rare — and use that as the basis of putting together a team you’ll use to fight against others.

wwe super card

Each superstar has their own stats — charisma, speed, toughness and power. And depending on how good the card is they can even get bonus stats in a particular category that may help give you the edge in a match. The action starts with the game telling you what type of match you’ll be fighting — 1 on 1, tag team or a diva match — and which bonuses will weigh heavily in its outcome. Should it show Charisma, you might have a chance to win a match with someone like The Rock even though his opponent (let’s say Stone Cold Steve Austin for old time’s sake) might have more power and toughness.

You earn “picks” after each match, though you’ll only earn 1 pick if you lose opposed to 2 for winning. You’ll also be able to buy picks using real money if the grind is too long for you. Picks can be used to select new cards that you can use to buff your collection.

Get a couple of stinkers? Just use them to train existing superstars. Training cards increases their levels and stats, though each one has a level of potential with an eventual ceiling. You can heighten that ceiling by combining two of the same cards if you have the luxury, so you might not want to discard duplicates immediately if you don’t have to.

The game is simple in its core and is a nice, quick way for WWE fans to get a taste of “action” absent the real thing or a true wrestling game. Despite that, though, it’s pretty fun, and you can get as deep as you want to once you get the hang of the training and combining system. It’s free to download and you can go very far without spending a dime so be sure to give it a shot at the Google Play Link below.

Xiaomi Announces Launch For MIUI 6 and Wants Beta Testers

AH Xiaomi Logo 1.6

As mobile tech lovers, we get excited when we hear news about our handset getting any sort of update. From a simple bug fix, to a major overhaul of the UI, just about anything can get our nerves jumping. If you are an owner of a MI3 or a MI4, get ready to squeal because the update you have been waiting for is finally here. On August 16th Xiaomi will be launching their new refreshed UI called MIUI 6. The announcement was made in the MIUI forums along side a contest to win MiCredits. The UI update will be based on Googles Android OS Kitkat, which has folks really excited. “Visually stunning, stunningly simple,” are the words written under a large colorful 6 used for the advertisement.

The new Android firmware promise’s a lot of thing such as optimization of functions and user interface, all of the content integrated, an improved ecosystem and of course, internet services. Not only will the MIUI 6 firmware be available for Xiaomi users, the companies states that the MIUI 6 update will be available for other brands as well. So brands such as LG, Samsung, and HTC, Motorola, and Oppo are just a few that will be able to rock the refreshed user interface.

With a much cleaner look, it is no doubt that people will fall in love with MIUI 6. But what was wrong with the last UI that the MI3 and MI4 had? Well for starters, users were complaining about how the interface was too cluttered. A cluttered screen is a big problem if you are utilizing any smartphone. Other than the cluttered screen, the colorful, childish looks of the UI gave users more to complain about. In other words, the UI made the MI4 look like a childs toy. Now with MIUI 6 on the way, the cluttered screen and childish looks will be done away with and replaced with are more matured, rich UI that is clean and refreshing to stare at.

After the announcement of the launch event for MIUI 6, Xiaomi is asking for beta testers to try out the new UI and give feedback on the redesigned look. If you are an active member in the MIUI forums, than this would be a great option for you, as you can help make MIUI 6 more stronger and better.

LG Targets Samsung With Its Latest Tagline

AH LG G3 2014 LG LOGO 15

Samsung and LG have many things in common. They’re both involved in a wide variety of ventures, from microwaves and TVs to making smartphone displays and the devices themselves. Not only that but they have a similar approach to making those (smartphone) devices, their software and they’re even both from South Korea. There has been many talk in the last few years that LG is copying Samsung in a way when it comes to smartphone design and software looks and features, which is kind of true in a way actually. LG started to differentiate at some point though and it seems they made the right call. Their software skin is still plenty heavy like Samsung’s, packing lots and lots of features (you might not even want) in there, however it looks different now and it definitely goes into a different direction. Their devices have also took a turn for the better in my honest opinion, LG’s G line is great and the latest LG G3 is really unique with its design and all around feel.

These two companies are direct competition to one another so no wonder they don’t like each other that much. LG seems to be taking that to a whole new level though. GSMArena report that LGUSAMobile YouTube page has a new header, an interesting one indeed as you can see above this article. LG took a subtle jab at Samsung here, though it’s pretty obvious to who is this aimed at. The tagline reads “There’s life beyond the galaxy” below which you can find #lifebeyondthegalaxy tag. On the right side of this header image you’ll see LG G3 which has an image of a galaxy on its display. LG must have felt it is the right time to strike considering Samsung’s profit took a dive in Q2 this year.

Life Beyond The Galaxy

As I said, it is quite obvious that LG is targeting Samsung here. Your thoughts on this? Will we see Samsung hit back here or will they take the high road?

Check out Wally: Material-inspired design, great wallpapers

wally wallaper

There are lots of Material-inspired apps out there, but Wally, a Wallbase.cc wallpaper browser, is one of the nicest yet.

Released last weekend, Wally is a simple, pretty, and functional wallpaper app, designed using Google’s Material design principles. The app bristles with clean typography, delightful little animations, Material action buttons, and that sense of depth that Matias Duarte is so enthusiastic about.

It’s not all eye candy – Wally is a fully featured browser of the popular database Wallbase.cc, which happens to be this author’s primary source of quality wallpapers. You can browse popular submissions, filter them by resolution or categories, and search by keyword or predominant color.

Once you found the perfect wallpaper, you can use it in just a few seconds (either as a background or as a contact photo), share it, or save it on your phone. The cropping tool is fairly powerful, so it’s easy to adapt the image to your homescreen configuration.

We still have to wait for true Material design apps, but Wally is a nice glimpse of what developers can achieve with the tools put at their disposal by Google. For this reason alone, we recommend that you give it a look.

Check out Wally in the Play Store.

Multi-language voice search begins rolling out to users

okay google now voice commands

New functionality hitting Google Search allows users to issue voice commands in up to five languages at a time.

Announced by a Google executive during the I/O conference in June, the rollout of the feature was delayed due to bugs found in late testing. Now some users are reporting that the feature has been activated on their devices, and a wider rollout seems imminent. As spotted by Android Police, the functionality is enabled server-side, so you may not be able to use it, even if you’re on the latest Search version.

With the new function, you will be able to enable up to five languages (down from seven, as it was first announced) and switch between them on the fly. That means, for instance, that you will be able to ask about the weather in San Francisco in English and switch to Spanish for getting navigation instructions. Before, you had to select the new language from Settings if you wanted to switch.

In terms of UI, the changes are minimal – instead of radio buttons, each language now has a checkbox, so you can choose more than one at a time. If you want to use the “Ok, Google” hotword, the primary language has to support it.

Multi-language support may seem like a minor feature, but identifying spoken commands across different linguistic patterns is anything but trivial. That explains why Google needed years to roll out the feature. This is just another step towards the ultimate goal of achieving a human-like understanding of voice – think the computer in Star Trek or the virtual assistant from Her. Google is confident that we’re just a few years away from big breakthroughs, including the ability to understand less than clear commands and non-standard speech patterns. In other words, your phone will one day be able to understand the speech of your four-year old or pick up your commands even when you’re in a noisy bar.
