HTC phablet rumors are back with alleged ‘HTC Hima Ace Plus’ specs: 5.5-inch QHD bezel-less display, Snap 810, and more

HTC quietly brilliant DSC07755

Rumors of a followup to the HTC’s first attempt at a high-end phablet — the HTC One Max — have been rumored for awhile now. We got our first look at a “leaked” press render of the device back in May, where, only 10 days later, we’d later learn that the phone’s development was allegedly suspended as HTC focused on their current crop of devices (like the HTC One M8).

Now, rumors of a new HTC-made phablet is making the rounds, this time with Brazilian site 4G News claiming the exclusive on a device they’re calling the HTC Hima Ace Plus (that’s a mouth full). A rough translation of the site shows top of the line specs that include a 5.5-inch QHD display without bezels (whatever that means), 2.3GHz Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, 3,000mAh battery, and fingerprint scanner that works even when the device is in standby. As for camera capabilities, it’s also said to come equipped with a 4MP UltraPixel front facing camera, and 20MP rear camera — all specs that are pretty much in tune with what we’ve been hearing about the HTC Hima (only bigger).

Really, it’s tough to verify the validity of these claims, with only a single “anonymous” source cited, we’d say take this with a great big handful of salt. With just about everyone launching a phablet these days (Motorola’s Nexus 6, the newly announced Xiaomi Mi Note), we’d say this year would be the perfect time for HTC to come in hot with a premium phablet of their own. Especially if the device was already nearing completion.

If the device is real, don’t expect to see it at this year’s Mobile World Congress. Sources claim the phone wont be unveiled until sometime in August or September, lining up with HTC’s previous fall timing for the 2013 HTC One Max (and pitting it directly against the Samsung Galaxy Note 5).

Google Maps Updated To Allow Sharing Of Turn By Turn Directions

AH Google Maps 1.3

Typically every week Google does its whole update thing and a number of Google Services and products receive updates. Sometimes they are minor updates with little tweaks and sometimes the updates are much more substantial. This week we have already seen an update to Google Drive and the way it handles files being uploaded. We also saw Chromebooks get an update to the way in which they connect with PC’s and laptops through the Chrome Remote Desktop App. Following on from these, there is an update to Google Maps which is rolling out.

This update is not huge and instead is a bit of a minor one. In fact, some might even think the update is rather pointless. That said, as with all things, they do have a purpose and especially for certain people. The update rolling out to Maps brings with it the ability to send someone detailed (point by point) directions to somewhere or from somewhere. It sounds more confusing than it really is. In short, if you want to share directions with someone, you now can. As mentioned, some will see this as a rather pointless exercise as it is probably easier to share your location (or just text someone the address) and let them use their Maps to detail the directions. However, if you prefer you can share the actual turn by turn directions. Maybe a more beneficial use of this update will be that you can share the information with yourself. Once the points have been plotted and directions contained you could simply share it to your Drive, Gmail or whatever for later use.

Anyway, if you want to use the new feature then the procedure it pretty much the same as it was before. Open Maps, enter your start location, destination location, filter by the method of transport and wait for the directions. Once plotted, hit the top right corner menu and you will see the new ‘Share directions’ tab. If you don’t see it just yet, then don’t worry. As always, these things are slow at rolling out but they will land soon enough. So, what do you think of the new feature? Do you see a reason you might be using it? Prefer to just send people an address and let them do their own legwork? Let us know

Featured: Top 10 Pet Tracking Apps For Android

Last year saw a boom in the fitness tracking market and now there are many apps available that offer GPS services to track your daily fitness activities. That said, GPS can be used for many other things other than simply tracking your steps. One important advance in GPS is that you can now safely track your pets when they are out free-roaming as they do. Below is our list of ten of the best android apps to help you monitor the health, well-being and whereabouts of your pets.

Tagg—The Pet Tracker

tagg Tagg the Pet Tracker kicks off the list today and does so in quite a good way. This app does exactly what it says and offers pet owners the ability to track and see where their pet is. However, in addition, this one also allows you to track their activities levels providing a more in-depth view to their health and diet.. If your pet is lost, this app will also provide you with driving directions to their approximate location. As with a lot of these apps you will need to buy a hardware element for the tracking to work effectively.

Animal Tracker

animal tracer The next app on our lists is a little different and not your conventional pet tracking app. However, if you are interested in animals in general then this might be an app worth a download. Animal Tracker allows the tracking of wild animals over the world so that you can see migration routes and collect animal movement data. This app is part of a wider scientific approach to animal tracking and your observations can be part of that research if you want.

Real-Time GPS Tracker 2

real time This app is not solely designed for pet tracking and as such provides a viable and value option to tracking your loved ones in general. If you are not interesting in paying for costly hardware like trackable collars then as the developers suggest “Use a cheap Android phone and put it on your dog. You can see your dog’s location on the map in real-time”. It might not sound like the most functional of pet trackers but if money is an issue and you would also like to be able to track the kids as well, then Real Time GPS Tracker 2 might be worth a go.

More often than not, tracking your pet’s general health will be of more importance to your pets life. Banfield Pet Health Tracker offers a solution to this problem by collecting and effectively tracking your pet’s medical history. This includes their medical records, vaccinations and veterinary needs. The information will always be available to you and easily recalled when needed.

This information can then be accessed online, show trends or even shared with your social media. On the more serious side, this app again offers the ability to track your animal when they are lost or missing. It is also worth noting that with the pro version the list of animal tracking is greatly increased compared to your more typical house pets offered in the free version.

Mugen Power’s Extended Battery Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Case Gives You 6,640 Additional mAh Of Power

Mugen Power Note 4 case

Mugen Power makes some really great battery cases for a wide range of smartphones, like the Sony Xperia Z3, and this battery case for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 which not only provides a massive amount of extra battery life to a device that already has a large battery capacity, but also a kickstand on the back which helps to keep it propped up so you can easily use the device without having to set it down and pick it up every time you want to respond to an incoming notification or flip through a song. It should also be great for when you want to watch movies, and there’s another scenario where the extra battery life from the case will come in handy since streaming movies tends to drain your battery a little more than usual.

The Galaxy Note 4 has 3,200mAh of battery life all on its own, so when you add the Mugen Power extended battery case to the mix the Galaxy note 4 gains an additional 6,640mAh of battery capacity. You heard that right, it adds 6,640mAh of battery capacity on top of the 3,200mAh the Galaxy Note 4 already has. If you’re worried about ever running out of juice while using it with the screen on for around 15 hours straight or camping for a few days, fear not as you should easily be able to make your phone last without dying on you.

Thinking about picking one of these up for your own Galaxy Note 4? It’ll set you back about $89.50, but that’s a reasonable price we think for the extra battery life as well as the added benefit of the kickstand placed on the back. The extended battery case replaces your Galaxy Note 4’s back panel, so it’s not really like a full case, but it does the job mostly the same and at least protects the back if it happens to land that way when dropped. The best part though, might be that the extended battery case from Mugen carries NFC support, as well as Qi wireless charging so there’s not even a need to plug in your device. Just drop on a Qi pad and you’re done. The case isn’t available on Amazon just yet, but you can pick it up over at Mugen’s own site.
