Motorola committed to bringing Lollipop to its 2013/2014 lineup

Today Google unveiled the next generation of the Nexus family, while also revealing plans to update existing Nexus and Google Play Edition devices to Android 5.0 Lollipop in the “coming weeks”. Now Motorola has spoke up on its plans for the update as well.

Motorola vows that it will bring the update to both 1st and 2nd generation Moto X handsets, 1st and 2nd gen Moto G devices, the Moto G with 4G LTE, Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini. As for when? Motorola says it is “still working out the details on timing and the upgrade depends on [their] partners’ support so stay tuned to our software upgrades page for the latest and greatest.”

That leaves the timeline up to interpretation, but given Motorola’s recent history we wouldn’t be too surprised to see the update start arriving to select devices within the next month or so. Either way, the good news is that none of Motorola’s 2013 or 2014 flagships are being left behind with the jump to Android 5.0 Lollipop! We have to wonder which manufacturer will be the next to officially comment on its Android 5.0 Lollipop plans, though we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s HTC (given its track record).

Google unveils its Android Lollipop statue

Continuing Google’s tradition of placing Android statues on its campus, today the new Lollipop-inspired statue was unveiled to the world. The latest sculpture is situated a little bit apart from the other statues and happens to be the largest member of the bunch.

As you can see, the sculpture shows off a bugdroid holding a massive lollipop and making the peace sign. Out of all the rumored names, we personally liked Lollipop the best and are glad to see it win out over other suggested titles like Lemon Meringue Pie, Lion and Licorice. Though we admit we are curious to see what a Lion (candy bar) statue might have looked like…

Google: The New "Messenger" App In Android 5.0 Is A Stock SMS/MMS Solution, Not A Hangouts Replacement / Rebrand

There's a new default homescreen tenant in town on Android 5.0, and its name is Messenger. We've seen this puzzling app in screenshots many times today, and it's left a lot of people wondering: where'd Hangouts go? Well, first things first: Hangouts isn't actually going anywhere (except maybe to the app drawer or a folder). SMS and MMS, though, are getting a new default home in Android 5.0: the Messenger app.

Watch the Nexus 6 get unboxed in under 6 seconds [VIDEO]

T-Mobile Senior Product Manager Des Smith is back with yet another one of his early unboxings, this time showing off the box that his Nexus 6 test unit arrived in. To be clear, this isn’t the final “retail ready” Nexus 6 box for T-Mobile, but if nothing else, it does give is a hint of what to expect for the unlocked model at least.

It’s interesting to see the box is almost pure white aside from the red stickers on the side to keep everything sealed shut. A big “6” indention can be found on the front but other than that, well… it’s a box. The T-Mobile Nexus 6 will be arriving at T-Mobile on November 12th, so if you’re interested on picking up the soon-to-be best phablet on the market, better mark your calendars.

Here are the first Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 promo videos

Now that Android L has a name, and new Nexus devices are upon us, it is time for some official videos. No teasing here, just good old fashioned Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 videos showing off all the good stuff and, of course, Android Lollipop.

First up, the Motorola built Nexus 6, with the ‘sweetest release yet from Android.’ As you know, the Nexus 6 has been a long time in the waiting, starting back with the rumors around Motorola Shamu. The day has arrived guys, here is all you need to know about the new Nexus 6, and here is the promo video in action – Nexus 6: Space to explore.

Surprise, surprise, the video says a 5.96-inch device. We previously believed the Nexus 6 would come with just a 5.92-inch device. Not much of a difference, but a notable change nonetheless.

Now for the new HTC built tablet, the Nexus 9. Although this tablet is no where near as anticipated as the Nexus 6, we still have a solid looking 9-inch tablet on our hands. Nothing overly remarkable here, but a great looking device, if tablets are still a go these days.

HTC Dot View app gets third-party notifications, music controls, and holiday surprises

Today, HTC brings some of the most-requested features to its companion application for the Dot View case. The Dot View case will now show third-party notifications from any app. Previously, developers had to take advantage of the technology and do it themselves. In addition to having a third-party app icon appear on the display with the case closed, a user can swipe up for quick launch. Then the app will appear when opening the case. HTC also brought music controls so you do not have to open the case and hop around just to pause or skip a song.

In the changelog for the app, HTC says that it has included “new secret features.” It seems that the company is going to celebrate some holidays starting with Halloween. The app’s Google Play page shows a screenshot of a carved pumpkin. We expect that more holidays and seasons will be included over time.
